Localization of Social Button Links

There is a much more powerful and interesting aspect of the social network revolution,  depending on your country demographics, actually more related to culture, different networks have evolved that suit the local population.

Orkut is a great example, a site originally developed by Google in the US, has been dominated for years by Brazilians (70%+ of their total users).  Networks that are popular in Germany and Japan are completely unknown in the United States or England.

Keeping this in mind, the social buttons you show to your visitors should appeal directly to their country of origin.

There are many sources of social network usage statistics to draw a map of your international target audience. For more research into what your demographics are:

There is a small subset of these networks that can be recognized by almost any foreign language visitor, such as Facebook and Twitter.

How does this gadget react to this social bookmark localization problem?

Well, it doesn't right now -- but, we are working on creating an endpoint service for this.

The gadget will grab a list of the top social sites from the current visitors place (location) and add some extra important social bookmarks specifically tailored to the visitor.
